Public Health: Wasco Domino’s Pizza used dry-ice to maintain food bloodless

WASCO, Calif. — The Kern Department of Public Health has closed a Domino’s Pizza in Wasco due to dangerous food temperature conditions. According to Public Health, the walk-in refrigerator at Domino’s Pizza, located at 842 7th Street in Wasco, did not meet the proper temperature for food. Public Health says the group of workers suggested that the stroll-in refrigerator had no longer worked considering that Sunday, June nine, and food was still served to customers.

Public Health says the operator tried to apply ice and dry ice to hold ingredients below forty-one degrees. According to Public Health, ice and dry ice are “unapproved” techniques to maintain meals cold. According to Public Health, the dry ice created a health and protection risk by displacing the walk-in cooler’s oxygen. The Kern County Environmental Health Hazardous Materials Team was tasked with mitigating the risk.

Public Health says the beverage cooler is used to keep “probably hazardous” food objects. According to Public Health, the cooler was permitted for drinks only. Public Health decided the operator “did not show decision-making abilities by serving meals to clients that were out of the safe temperature range for numerous hours.” According to Public Health, “the suitable decision would be to self-near the facility, spoil unsafe meal items, restore the walk-in fridge, permit the walk-in fridge to attain forty-one degrees or underneath, and then restock the refrigerator.”
